The study of nonprofit and volunteerism is reaching into academic institutions in Texas.  If you are interested in certificate, internships, undergraduate, or graduate programs, check the websites of these Texas educational institutions for more information about their programs. Nine of the Academic Providers are members of the Network and are in bold below.

  • 12 credit hours of graduate level coursework
  • Two required courses: Foundations of the Nonprofit Sector and Management and Leadership of Nonprofit Organizations and a variety of electives
  • Availability of in-person and online courses
  • Successful candidates will be awarded a certificate and it will appear on university transcripts

    Midland College
  • A student organization and a scholarship program
  • In-depth leadership training program to learn about the values and role of philanthropy in a community
  • Students raise at least up to $500 and up to $1,000 and these funds are matched by the Abell-Hanger Foundation at a $15 to $1 basis
  • Students award grants to area nonprofits through a grant application process

  • Completely online graduate program for convenience of students
  • Tuition is priced at half the cost of traditional graduate degree programs
  • 36 credit-hour program can be completed in two years
  • Themes:  Leadership and Management, Marketing, Finance and Accounting, Operations and Administration, Legal Issues, and Strategic Management
        The University of Incarnate Word
  • Minor in Nonprofit Management with a 6-class requirement
  • Three Business Classes: Computer Technology, Financial Management, and a Business Seminar
  • Choice of Two Electives: Food Recovery & Cleaning, and Apparel Recovery/Resale
  • Internship: Working with the San Antonio Food Bank, Salvation Army, and Goodwill
     The University of Texas at San Antonio American Humanics
  • One of three universities in Texas in partnership with the national American Humanics program
  • Students complete 16 semester hours of coursework in nonprofit management, accounting, marketing, and fundraising
